On a windy day in February some children helped plant trees on the school playing field. The trees were donated by the National Grid. Below is the press release related to this and some photos of the trees being planted.

National Grid awarded the trees to Laing O’Rourke for their extensive work to ensure the preservation of the dormice and hedgerows during work undertaken at the nearby Sapperton Above Ground Installation (AGI) last year.
The mitigation work included coppicing and transplanting a section of the roadside hedgerow under the supervision of the Tree Council. The stumps were labelled and regularly watered and will soon be returned to their original location. No transplanted hedgerow has been monitored in this way before, and National Grid is able to work with Defra to contribute in a cost-effective manner to ecological best practice. Wooden gates, covered in the coppiced brash cut from the hedgerow were used at the site entrance to provide a continuous link for the dormice along the length of the hedge so leaving their paths uninterrupted.
Helping the children plant the trees, National Grid Environmental Manager, Steve Yeoman said: “We’re delighted to present these Maple trees to the school; not only will they provide shade for the children but their yellow flowers and their bright autumn leaves will bring colour to the playground too.”
