On Friday 21st September we were visited by 'John the Potter' from Eastnor Pottery.

He brought with him some examples of pots he had made.

He showed us how clay can be manipulated by pinching, rolling and using tools to make lines. He made the owl using all these techniques.

John also brought his potters wheel with him. He showed us how to throw the clay onto the wheel (perhaps exaggerating slightly!)

Then he showed us how to make a pot on the wheel.

He made it look very easy.

Eventually it started to take shape.

John is going to give us the finished pot to keep once it has been fired.

Then it was the turn of reception and year one to make tiles. They had to flatten the clay using their clenched fists. Making sure they kept turing the clay.

They are starting to look like tiles now.The next step was to cut round the card to make a square.

The children then had to write their names on the back of the tile.

The using the leftover bits of clay they had to decorate their tile with sea creatures. Some children made fish.

Other children chose crabs.

The children then had to paint part of their tile using 'slip'. John has taken these away to dry out and be fired.

The juniors made 3 d models of sea creatures.

Here are some of the finished fired models.
